»It was on my 3rd birthday. Everyone was gathered in the kitchen. The grown-ups were drinking wine. My parents wanted to show the guests our cellar. I stayed alone in the kitchen, climbed up on the table and tried the wine in the glasses. The Spätlese was wonderfully sweet and I just kept on sipping happily.«

What moved me to a career in wine:
»Well, I wasn’t quite good enough as a race car driver, so I decided to take a whirl at the family wine business.« (grinning)

»I love to reminisce about an amazing wine tasting with very old Riesling wines that I was once able to take part in. The youngest vintage we tasted was 1908! Wines over 100 years old – phenomenal!«

»My parents are my biggest heroes. So it’s always been very obvious to me that we would follow after them in running the wine estate.«

»One of the most fascinating wines I have experienced in my life was a 1937 Feiner Spätlese from the Lenchen vineyard in Oestrich. What an amazing vintage. It had been stored in my grandfather’s wine cellar in the Heinrich Spreitzer winery.«

What moved me to a career in wine:
»The inheritance my father left me – it was simply obvious to me that I would continue the family tradition.«

»To clarify the wine, we work with separators. One day I was working alone on one of these devices. I had already clarified quite a bit of wine that day, and suddenly everything came to a halt. I had to clean the device all by myself, a job that normally requires two people. What a day..!«

What moved me to a career in wine:
»In 1983 I travelled with a friend from Berlin towards the Rheingau. We wanted to help in the harvest and earn a bit of extra money. Nobody was giving us a job. Then Otti Spreitzer, the former boss who has sadly since passed away, open the door to us. She offered us a job. The rest is history. That day changed my life!«
